I am thinking about getting a collapsible fish house before the ice fishing season is over and I was curious what you guys would recommend. I want something that sets up relatively easy and is durable in these North Dakota winds. A good bargain doesn't hurt either.

The Clam X4 is the only portable house that I know of that you can comfortably fish four guys out of. Not cheap though.

Yep, you can fish 4 nicely.  Just bring 2 heaters if it is cold or windy.  Oh, and get a buddy to help you load it.

what about the big eskimo ones? we used one of those a couple weeks ago and that seemed to fit 4 comfortably. I'm just not sure about the durability

I'm assuming your referring to the Fatfish 9416 pop up. If so my brother has a Clam like it that is called the Command Post and he loves it. It has a lot of room and is built pretty well. In your previous post you had stated "wind" and that's why I didn't mention these ones. There a pain to set up in the wind and always want to collapse until you get the outside walls anchored. Just my input.

actually you are right on the collapse part. once we anchored the walls facing the wind and packed snow around the base it worked well but it was a bitch to set up and i got a wet foot to prove it. the look really affordable though so thats why they intrigue me.

The X4 is great.  As far as a bargain goes, even at $100 bucks off it will probably be over $700.  Two sunday's ago it stood up pretty well in the wind.  But earlier this season you could have seen me sliding across north six mile in fearnofish's X4 by myself with no snow to help with the wind!  Good rig though.

the 9416 eskimo has great reviews, alot even showed higher marks when comparing it to the clam. I ended up going with the 949 fatfish. Light, and collapses down small enough where I can fit it in the airplane. Have no problem fishing 3 or 4 people in it, and seems to hold up nicely in the lovely ND wind.

I heard the same thing, if they were "last years" model. I contacted Eskimo personally myself before buying one. If there are any issues or if you happen to get one of the "last year" problem models, they will replace it or repair it for free. The reviews I read of the problems werent too bad. Guys that encountered the problems sent their houses to eskimo, and had them back within the week. Very good customer service IMO.
