i guess i should have specified.
i don't reload so i would be looking for plug and play ammo.

Scheels has Barnes TTSX (rounds), or you can order them from Cabelas or most anywhere else. I shot my bull two years ago with 130 grain .270. Went about 7 yards and died. Big, old bull. TTSX's really hold together has been my experience. To the point that I have complete pass through's on all the deer I've shot in the last couple years. Including a quartering to doe that I held high in the shoulder to anchor. Bullet came out opposite rt rear quarter.

110 TTSX,130 TTSX or 129 LRX. Take your pick.

I currently shoot 110 TTSX at 3700 out of mine, I would love to whack a bull with one just to see.  I don't believe it would fair well for the bull.

If I were starting from scratch I'd probably opt for the 130 or 129 for elk, just because.

I wonder what it would do to a prairie dog.

Killed, tenderized and cooked, all with one shot. All you gotta do is grab a straw.

Nothing enjoyable compared to thin jacketed ballistic tips.

I suppose a nice mushrooming bullet would do a bit more damage.  I should probably invest more time into choosing types of ammo.  I usually just grab whatever off the shelf or have a family friend reload for me.  Now I want to kill prairie dogs.

Don't fool yourself. The 6-9 foot cartwheels happen when things don't expand real well. And when there a little on the naive' side you can get the 3-4 for one side profile shot.

We've got prairie dogs real close to town so always opportunity, even sunny winter days. I've got a daughter who was hesitant about killing deer (doe this year is her last, from now on buck or nothing) who loves shooting p-dogs. Typically I have my .204 with at all times. It does a nice job.

Guessing 'just'a little' outside the max recommended powder. Jiffy, are you loading the 110's for standard .270 also?

Not quite, but pretty close.  I don't believe I'll attempt to shoot said load in the summer, it might get ugly right quick.
