If anyone was wondering where that Remington LSS in 257 Weatherby @ the scheels in Bismarck went... It's in my gun room.

Ordered the dies, norma brass... and another optic a few nights ago.
However, Im still torn on the pill to use.
I almost want to go with a monothlic due to the nature of that cartridge..... on the other hand, I DON'T "plan" on using this for anything closer than 250 yards.

I was thinking that a good charge of Retumbo or RL22 and a 115CT oughtta do the trick, but Id rather hear from the quarter bor users out there before I make any judgement on components...

Thanks

Koz

Ramshot magnum and a 100gn TSX.  The powder is in the same burn class as R-25 and Retumbo but meters out more easily and fills the case well.  Very consistant  ES/SD throughout ND's temps.  Better accuracy and ES/SD for me than what R-22 provided.  The 100gn TSX requires just a mere 7.5MOA to get to 600yds via 200yd zero, and just shy of 22MOA to get to 1k with the same zero.

The 26" Remington tube oughta get you 3600+fps as I surpass that with a 25".  Top velocity and top accuracy met at the same time and place.  Axe the tip pressure, capture the lug, a dab on the tang, tweak the trigger and you're there.

I hear ya
My father and I tweaked out the trigger to down a lb or so from where it was.
Sitting right around 3-3.5lbs, and breaks like glass.

I ordered a VX-1 4x12x40 for it... and already have leupold rings/bases on it.

Think Barnes has the load data for that propellant on their site... I'll certainly entertain that loadout..  Like I said, Im just thunkin for a bit before the components arrive.... I'll definitely have something ready to rock for deer season.

I have seen some great long range shots with the 257. It is fast and flat gets poor mileage (uses a lot of powder) Friend has an old Mark V  and that gun has killed elk in Montana for the last 22 yrs.

Hodgdon 4831 with Nosler 100gr ballistic tips have been the best load in my rifles. I've used that combo in both my .257wby and 25-06 with great results.

Was in on the used rack? Traded mine back to Scheels for the weatherby.

Nope.- I never will buy a used weapon.
This one was brand spankin new..still had all the Remington stickers and garbage on it.

Finally settled on a load....
67 RL22, 115ct and a 215Match.
Does about .35in and 3250 FPS average.

I would like to try Retumbo out.... but Im not going to take the time to do it right now.

Your asking a lot of any cup/core bullet @ 257Wby velocities.  The 100TSX is "THE" bullet for all things .25cal.  Gives up right @ 1MOA of wind @ 1K and is 2MOA flatter than the 115CT, which basically means that at even extended hunting ranges there is only the upside of enhanced performance and you take the short-range cup/core nuking outta the equasion.  Win/Win.

Reloader 22,  100 grain TSX, I exceed max. powder ( according to the manuals) after careful testing, so I will not put that down.  3726 fps. through a chronograph,  3/4 inch @ 200 yards.  This is my favorite load for my 257.

I think I may brave trying that same powder charge on a 120Gr Speer Hotcore.
As far as 100 grain Barnes, that may defintely be the cats meow... but I have this one throttled back a bit...  I want to maintain accuracy and barrel lifespan... anything above 3300-3400fps is a real throat eroder.

*** ON a side note- Is it even a feasible Idea to try Retumbo in that rifle?
I have tried RL25--- it SHOTGUNNED the load.
3+ inches with a mid load of the powder.

Horsager,   Just the plain TSX X-bullet.  I just reloaded my 300 Wby. Mag with the Tipped TSX but have not shot any yet and it is my first load with the 300.  My 257 I have had for 4 years and have been working on a load that works out of this gun and I am please with the results.
