Looking to get a 243 rifle for basically coyotes and eventually it will become a first deer rifle for my daughter and son. Was looking at the Remington 770 and the Savage packages at Scheels was just wondering what was anyones thoughts on these or ideas on something different.

 770 is junk.

In your case the Howa or Weatherby Vanguard package rifle with both the youth and adult stocks included would be perfect.  Howa and Wby Vanguard are exactly the same rifle so purchase whichever one is the most economical.

Bought the wife a rem 700 ADL .243 youth model. Much easier for her to shoulder quickly and fits her good. I have no problem leaning in and shooting it either. Got it at Cabelas in Billings with a Cabelas pine ridge 3x9-40 scope and a hard case for 449 2 years ago. Great buy if u ask me.
Hold my beer while i land this walleye!!

I bought a Browning ADL micro in 243 for myself and loved the gun.  My daughter shot it and I have not gotten it back so bought a Browning micro x bolt.  Love both guns and very accurate at the range,  Nice fit with the micro.  Good luck and have fun picking a gun

Wait just a little bit and take at look at the new Ruger American....I think its called. It'll be priced to compete with the ADL and the Savage 111. Looks like its going to be a pretty cool setup.

Go here and check the youth/compact M70's.  Will be the boy's gun next year.

I put my Weatherby Vanguard 243 into a Knoxx Axiom stock that has an adjustable length of pull from about 14" to under 12" w/ the press of a lever. The stock also has multiple recoil reducing technologies installed. My 8 year old shot his first deer with it this year. I am not aware of any other type of rifle stock that we could both use interchangeably - I am 6'4" and he's maybe 4'3" and 65 lbs. I put a Minox 3-9x40 scope on it because it has 4" of eye relief.

well i own a few savages and they really are great guns and tack drivers besides. horsager and a few others on here hate them but you will find more people like savage than hate them.  remington 700 are great also, i wouldnt buy a 770 they are junk.  I love remingtons.  I think you can buy the 700 adl pachages @ scheels reasonable also. good luck in your find

a AR would also fit this bill and be a ton of fun.

I would not call it hate, I am a fan of the action and barrels, but do not like a two stage trigger. That being said, I have a Mod 700 youth that my wife shoots in a 7mm-08 that once tuned is a good rifle for the dollar. But strofan makes a great point in regards to the versatility that this type of stock provides if you want to spend the money.

Howa and Wtby with the combo stocks are a good way to go, very solid action and barrel set up, but they do need some trigger work. Biggest thing is fit and feel for a new shooter. A rifle even in a low recoil caliber that is clumsy or ill fitting will do more to discourage a shooter than anything. Have them handle a bunch and see which one lights up their eyes.
In my lifetime I have seen fence row to fence row farming and the return of CRP and game to the landscape. Now we face again the prosepect of fence row to fence row again! Sportsman are our own worst enemy in that we fail to look forward and focus to much on the now!
