Which .243 factory ammo is the best for coyotes? I was looking at Hornady 58gr. V-Max Poly but thought they were a little expensive for me. What are you guys using out there?

I guess I should have said that I am looking for something that does not leave a monster size hole in them.

Corky-
If you're using your .243 you should be ok (IMO). The Hornady's will help though. Just don't shoot your Federal soft points and you should be ok.

TSX is dime sized going in and maybe half again coming out.....unless you hit some major bone or the paunch.  However hitting them in the guts is well worth it just to hear the "spinning die yelp".

Large bone contact gives you 2 results, huge hole, or no hole at all.  Entering or exiting the "paunch" almost always creates a large hole.  Broadside in the noggin earhole to earhole doesn't make much of a mess.

How about in the back of the head and exiting between the eyes?  (grin)

Are you saying you aim to maim?   I've been accused of that a time or two.

I've only tried the 85 tsx (recommended from one of these threads), only because I didn't have to look any further...

I can tell you what bullets not to use and thats the 243. 60 Gr hollow point from Federal.  They are fast but blow terrible holes.

I myself switched from a 22.250 to a .243 only because it knocks them dead and there really isn't much difference when you find the right bullet.  Like has been said, if it hits bone it's like shrapnel (spelling) but other than that you can expect the same out of a .243 as any caliber depending on bullet construction...

Any gun any bullet can leave a small hole or large gaping hole.  I have shot them with a 22-250 and had a hole you could put your entire fist in.  I have also shot them with 30-06 and the hole coming out was maybe maybe half again as big as the hole going in.  I saw a 204 decimate a coyote.  No perfect bullet just a perfect shot.

I need to try  TSX in my 26-06       It has collected dust for 30 years due to of lack of trust.     I know it is a good caliber it just never proved it to me.

100gn TSX, Reloader 22.  3300fps seems to be the magic accuracy spot.
