Never shot 22-250, never needed to, my .233 works great on all yotes. Spend the extra and go with the .50 BMG, great shooting if you can carry it. HUAH

Both are great calibers, the .223 is cheaper on ammo cost, both reloaded or factory. But it is hard to argue with the success of the .22-.250, I love mine, although I have never shot a .223.

Pretty sure that you won't be able to tell the difference between the two in the field. The only place you will tell the difference is at the checkout when you are buying ammo. Most of us don't shoot enough dogs to notice a difference. But I like my .243 for the job, because it is a great all around gun, even if it does bounce off deer.

223 for 2 reasons and neither of them have to do with how well a particular caliber might perform on game.

1.  Ammo's much cheaper

2.  Cheaper ammo results in lots more shooting/practice.

Caliber is about 50x less important than ability and ability only comes through practice.

There are only 10 kinds of people in the world, those who understand binary, and those who do not.

The search engine on this site isn't broken and I really don't care if I'm considered cool.

While we are at it maybe we should ask if a 223 is too small for deer, or if the Game and Fish should revamp the lottery system, or if there are too many NR hunters, or if land access for hunting is getting tough, or if baiting should be outlawed, or.........

The search engine is on here for a reason, use the damn thing.

I have both. My 22-250 is set up with a bull barrel and my 223 is an AR. If the ranges are short and fast. I will go with a 223. If the range is stretched out to 300-400 its the 22-250.

Speed, thats funnier den' hell right there.  Some people just can't help being a tool. I PM'd you too.  For the most part Horsager is right on with the .223 and the 2 main reasons to shoot it...

Sweet!  At least you learned how to use it.

Hint:  Type in "coyote rifle" and you'll get 3 pages of info....maybe, just MAYBE, even some on the 22-250 and the 223.

Really Jiffy, really? I know you like to consider yourself king of fishing buddy, but relax, just because you know that a 223 is the best choice for a varmint rifle doesnt mean that someone else does, lighten up. Fishing buddy is for outdoorsmen helping outdoorsmen, not for smart a%$ comments from a tool like you. Get over yourself man, your not really that cool. I read most of your posts and comments and usually agree with you, but your attitude today was uncalled for. I know that I am younger than you, but grow up. Speed maker go with the 223, Horsager nailed it right on the head.

Speaking of "tools" there is one called a seach engine.....USE IT!!!!!  Then, just maybe then, we won't have 18 posts about the same fricken topic.  This website is the worst for that, and it's sick'ening, at other more national sites, if you ask stupid ass questions without doing a seach first you'll get smoked off the board.  Take it upon yourself to do a little research on previous topics and maybe you won't get treated like a dumbass.  It's very easily avoided...

heh heh......good idea.   I NEED it to warm up a bit so you, I, and a few others can get out and test that Slavage of yours.   I am yearning for 1K steel!!!!!!!!!  Although you may have to borrow one of mine or Horsagers rifles for that range.
