2011 Dodge Ram 1500 Big Horn reviews

I'm looking at a 2011 dodge ram bighorn right now and just wondering if any of you own one and would/ would not suggest buying it. Let me know if anyone has any input on the truck. Thanks!

My fiance has a 2011 big horn and have put 20,000 miles on it and it is a piece of junk. Has 4 wheel drive issues, rear end issues, and gets 8 mpg pulling a 18 foot boat. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Without any load behind it best I've had is 14 mpg

Just wait, the transmission is not far behind. Concur however with EVERYTHING you already said.

Same boat walynut, I had a durango for about 4 months once. Enough said.

Go get an ecoboost from Ford and enjoy it!  Never been a dodge fan because of it being a cheaper made pickup. Door panels falling apart, rear end issues, and my biggest concern, Transmissions, ALTHOUGH, the 100K warranty is nice. If you can get a good buy on it,  go for it, and if you love it, keep it, hate it, send it down the road.

I have a 2009 Dodge Ram Big Horn. Almost 40K miles. Zero issues. I have the lifetime powertrain warranty. Best truck I have owned, and I have owned Chevy's and Ford's. Will not go near a Ford again. Too many bad memories.

And yes the Durango's were crap. But the Ram's are a much better truck.

And you Ford lovers, you can blast me all you want, I don't really care and will not change my opinion.

my 2004 dodge has held up pretty good.  a few minor hiccups.  but, those were problems caused from something other than it being built crappy.  i'd recommend one to anyone.  they beefed up their drivetrain and solved tranny issues more than a decade ago.  the hemi engine is pretty much bullet proof.  mine is closing in on 200K and i hope to get about 750K more out of her.

I have a 2010 Laramie and have 45000 miles on it now with absolutely zero problems.  The 5.7 Hemi is for my money the best combination of power and economy you can get in a half ton pickup.  I pull 17-19 on the highway no problem going 72-75mph and probably about 16-18 during the cold months.  I average 15 miles to the gallon when you factor in city driving and again about 14 during the winter. As far as ride goes it is about as good as you'll get in a truck.  The new Ram truck is a whole different animal than the ones from 5 or 10 plus years ago.  I have owned all three brands at one time or another and even own a 2010 Tahoe right now that my wife drives and there have been multiple problems with that and it has 44000 miles on it.  You can get an occasional melon no matter what brand ya go with, but I will tell you these new Rams are solid.  I know five other people who own one or more of these trucks and have very little bad to say about them.  You have a hell of a warranty as well, which would serve as a safety net if ya did have problems, but it is highly unlikely that you would.

The tranny issues on the Ram was solved over a ten years ago and it wasn't a problem with the actual tranny, but the tranny cooler...which would cause the trannys to fail.  Those issues continue to be brought up though any time you see a thread like this....its kind of laughable actually.

I agree, that warranty is nice.  I am seriously contemplating getting rid of my 04 F150 and getting a new Dodge.  You can get a brand new Big Horn crew cab down in Aberdeen, SD for 30K.  Get an SLT and it drops down to about 28K.  Can't beat that when the same Ford or Chevy would run you 35-40K.

I don’t want to kill the animal, but I do want to warn it, and say “hey, I think you’re pretty neat, but I respect your distance.” There’s bears out here, there’s mountain cougars, and biting goats.

Ok well do some checking first and make sure it does NOT have this transmission in the 2011 you are looking at;

"here is the number for the star case # s1121000005 dated 6/30/2011 have your dealerships service dept. Pull it up. It is for noise and vibration at certain speeds

"

Very common problem with very little fix as of now.

Actually for me from 1995-2000 it was the torque converters shelling out and sending all the metal back through the transmissions, at least that is what happened to me THREE times. But I suppose they could have had cooler problems too, wouldn't surprise me.

This is what happened to my 2001 1500 Ram 5.9L as well, with only 40,000 miles and having never pulled anything more than a 16' aluminum boat. I now have 75,000 miles and am hoping to make it to 100,000 without another failure, but am not crossing my fingers. Also, ive never seen more than 12mpg, even driving 65 on interstate. My combined fuel ilage after 75,000 miles is just under 10

Heres the read on it, more torque converter problems it looks on more than just the 2011's too........

Sorry if I am coming off as a prick here but I have got so screwed over by Dodge Trucks, it pains me to see others take the chance even understanding ALL manufactures have their problems.

I was a Ford guy all my life.  Traded in my F-150 and leased a 2006 Dodge Ram SLT.  When the lease was up I bought a 2009 TRX4.  Best truck I've ever had.  The Hemi gets great gas mileage since it cuts out cylinders when cruising.  This summer I drove down to southern SD to pick up a dog and averaged 20/21 MPG.  I also tow an 18 foot boat and have not been even close to the bad gas mileage HJchamp is getting.

I have a 2005 Ram 1500 with the Hemi, and in 80,000 miles all I have done is replaced the shocks, brakes, and an oxygen sensor.  I pull a 27' TT and get around 12 to 13 mpgs.  This pickup is used for pulling and hunting, and has held up great.  I did take it to San Antanio Texas to visit the inlaws, and got an average of 18 mpgs.  I have nothing bad to say about the Ram, but I can say it doesn't really matter what you drive, as I think they are about a horse apiece in the half ton catagory.  Go to a 3/4 ton, and it will be a Ford in my driveway.  And yes the ride in the newer Rams is nice.

Traded my 1998 Quad cab in on a 2011 Crew and no complaints so far. Only have about 30,000 miles on it. Was getting 16-18 mpg, added a lift/leveling kit and dropped to 14-16mpg. Have not needed the 4 wheel drive much yet, but have had no issues with that either. Only problem has been one tire went flat twice, not too thrilled with the stock tires, will be upgrading those by this fall.

Dad has an 08 ram 3500, on the way to the lake it got 20mpg, on the way back with a 10mph head wind it got 12mpg.  My brother has an 03 and he's on his 3rd transmission, he also has an 07 durango that also needed a transmission along with several other 4 wheel drive and drive train issues.  They also rust out fast so get rid of it before the warranty is up, we had a 2010 ram in the shop a few months ago that was covered with rust on the inner box panels.  Dodge has always been the cheapest truck on the road.  that sticker price is less for a reason.

I have a 2004 dodge ram 4X4 four door with a hemi in it and have not had any problems with it what so ever, I put 20`` rims and tires on it took it in and had the shift points chaned alil and i get about 16 miles to the gallon, but if ya use the hemi and get a lead foot it uses quite abit more. I know alot of guys that have fords and chevys and it seems to me they all can have there problems. I would say if i was you i wouldnt be afraid to get a dodge.  If i knew how to add pics i would add a pic of my dodge pickup.

Ive changed air filter, tried all different types of fuel and still the same thing. I am a ford guy not gonna lie to anyone but im just stating my opinion on the dodge that your lookin at. My brother has 2011 F-150 with the 5.0. and The two compared is a world of a difference. And another thing is the inside of the dodge doesnt hold together well either im always putting plastic pieces back on that are at the base of the seats. I like to put my vehicles to work and the new dodge just doesnt impress me. Not trying to dump on dodge people or chevy people or anything just stating my personal experience.

I had a 04 dodge ram quad cab with the hemi Bought it new and the salesman told me to get the warranty you had to follow the service schedule in the manual. trany fluid and plugs at 30k diff fluids a couple times wasnt cheap. I was changeing the rear end oil and it was full of metal. 2 ring and pinons later the main harness plug in to the steering column fried. the dealership i bought it from butt spliced a new harness in. I got rid of it with 58000 the day i picked it from the dealership and they butchered the main harness. I liek the truck but even a side wind knocked the milage to 12. I f i drove in mn with the 55 mph speed limit it would get 26 to 18.
liked the truck but the warranty repairs and mileage sucked.

That 5.0 doesnt even compare to the Hemi. The Hemi has way more horse power and still good on gas. Had a 95 and got 170000 out of it, with 3 trannies. LOL  Im from MI were they salt the h#ll out of the roads and most would agree Ford is the one with the rust problems. If i had the money i would be buying a newer Dodge. Nice trucks, everyone on here has a different opinion but the only fair post to keep in mind are the ones from pple that have or own one from the last few years. Good Luck
