20 Ribeyes for $25, Minot and "Omaha Beef"

"Omaha Beef" is selling 20 ribeyes for $25 in Minot. The too good to be true clause immediately came to mind, so after some Googling, more negative reviews than good ones. Complaints include:
Freezer burn
Horse meat
Molded meat
Thawed and refrozen multiple times
Tough meat
Fatty
Not ribeye
Not beef

Does anyone have good reviews from this specific truck here now in Minot? Traveling meat automatically makes me cringe, but if someone tried them, how were they?

I stopped by the truck the other day to take a look. The first impression I got was it was just like a carney at the fair. The music was loud and there was quite a line. It seemed like he was trying to sell some other stuff along with the meat but I'm not sure. i wanted to get a look at it and see what the cuts looked like but I wasn't sticking around an hour to confirm my suspicions. You're right, if it seems to good to be true it usually is.

In Bismarck they just "sold out" of the ribeyes.  Then bait and switch to their multi box program.  Try to sell your their box set with 8 different kinds of meat in it.  IT IS A SCAM

If it IS Rib Eye then it must have been shaved in paper thin slices by one very sharp blade.  If it IS Rib Eye then I would like to know off of what animal.

It's an upsell scam.  Yes, you can get your cheap meat.  You get what you pay for and no more.  What they really want to do though is sell you the expensive upgrade after a high pressure sell job and pep rally, which everyone must sit through.   The upsell package does consist of the thick higher quality cuts.  But, you will pay for it.

Stay away.

Don't confuse Omaha Beef and Omaha Steak.  Bought a rack of lamb from Omaha Steak and it was awesome, but also about $45.

Stopped in Bismarck.  There were 20 steaks.  Each 4 ounces and perfectly round.  Looked fishy to me so I bailed.  They were trying to upsell to a $160 package of misc cuts and chicken.

Stopped at the one in Bismarck the weekend of May 4th, and they were "just out of the 20 ribeyes for $25". Go figure. They were still advertising on the radio though, that they had them.

Sounds too good to be true? IS too good to be true.

And Omaha Pork is another one.  They were over here today.

Had these weirdos come by the office while i was working this past fall. THis young guy pulled all of these steaks out of the box and laid them on the floor and gave me a big talking about how great they were and all of this stuff. He started trying to sell them at like $160 and when i said no and he came down to like $100. And i told him if i want good steak i will go out to my buddies and get home grown ND beef. He didnt like it to much and he packed up and left.  If was alot like the vacuum cleaner calesman that were all over Dickinson for awhile. I wouldnt trust it at all. Just something about buying beef out of a van that looked like it was for kidnapping kids.

I bought one of those vacuums 3 years ago. Its a great vacuum, then I found out the guy sold one to my next door neighbor for $200 less than I paid him....

haha, they came through my 'hood' last year..........and i had some time on my hands .........well, after i had about 1/2 of their vans contents spread on my driveway, and had their prices down to about 1/2 of where they started, i commited to buying 1 of each type of steak to 'test' the product (and i wouldve paid up!). they werent willing to just sell me a few.

i said "thanks" and walked away......

People selling meat out of a vehicle/tent....seems legit!

Scam. Period. I used to work for a company like this (before I knew it was a scam). Here's how it works... These guys will come to your house, tell you they have an awesome deal on some steaks and then say something like, "Hang on, I'll be right back to show you." Then they run back to their van and come back and open up 6 boxes of different cuts of steaks and then make up some shpeel about being able to sell them to you for $150 - $180. Whatever number they come up with. Their cost on the case of steaks is $120. Anything over that, they pocket. But, they actually have to rent the van and pay for their own gas everyday, so they usually try to sell it to you for $180. They'll maybe hand you a brochure and show you there's a guarantee, but then they sneakily tear out the receipt so you're left with a brochure with no guarantee. The meat is pure crap, at best. I actually had these guys come knocking on my door about 12 years after I left the company. They gave me the same word-for-word shpeel that I had used when I was employed with them. I laughed at them and asked to see their license to sell. When they fumbled over their words I told them to leave my property within 30 seconds or I was calling the police. I can't speak for everyone, but most of the peddlers don't even have a permit to sell the stuff. You need a city permit, a county permit, and a state permit. All of which comes directly out of their pocket. The company doesn't provide it. Nobody wants to buy all that stuff so they try to go door to door as fast as they can and sell what they can and get out before they get busted. If these guys ever come to your door, DO NOT BUY FROM THEM. I would call the cops and tell them there's some suspicious activity going on.

Get up at 5 in the morning, walk through miles of cattails, sit in a stand all day in the cold, come back home in the dark, get up the next day and do it all over again. I'd do that for a buck!
