Three years in a row I had to take the rifle out to get a deer. Hope to change that this year.

What the heck, nice buck man, holding out on the story or what?  Didn't know you smoked one!

Well Tim the deer hunting around here was tough last year and I don't see any improvement after the winter we had. I had to go west I got this one on our third trip. I had spotted a big boy in Aug. while goat hunting in the same area. I went up opening week with an old high school friend from Michigan. We spotted the one I seen in Aug. with three other pigs. They were lying in a grass flat with no cover within a mile of them. It was really frustrating week because they were there every day. I thought if I waited until later in the season I would have a better chance. Another friend did get a shot at the one that had some extra junk but it was a miss. I did try a stalk on the one I wanted but there were too many deer hiding in the draws between me and the big guy. He was still there the weekend before closing so maybe this archery season if he made it through winter. I might have to give an elk trip up if he is still walking.
